Singapore is a wealthy, western-looking city-state that clashes with the rest of South East Asia. A lot of people transit via Singapore when traveling the region and wonder if it is worth it to stop there for a couple days. Unlike neighboring countries Indonesia and Malaysia, Singapore’s food, accommodation and transports will cost you the same (or more when it comes to alcohol) than home, so you don’t wanna spend too much time there if you’re on a budget.
I was there for three days in October 2016 and loved it. The city is unbelievably clean and safe, which makes it fun to just walk around at any hour. The marina is gorgeous and offers stunning views of the city’s epic skyline and the botanic gardens are absolutely worth checking out. If you happen to be there during the weekend in October, make sure to check out Universal Studios Halloween Night ; my friend and I had the time of our lives there.
